Before
AfterNot every scratch needs a full panel respray
Scratches vary enormously. Some only mark the lacquer and will machine-polish out in an hour. Others go through the colour coat and need a localised paint repair. A few go to bare metal across a large area and genuinely need a bodyshop.
The problem is knowing which is which — and that’s exactly what a photo tells us. Send a close-up and a wider shot and we’ll give you a realistic assessment, not a one-size-fits-all price.

What we repair
- Localised scratches on doors, wings, bonnets and bumpers
- Key marks and vandal scratches (single panels)
- Door edge chips and door-to-door scuffs
- Paint transfer and lacquer scratches that may polish out
When SMART repair may not be the right route
- Deep scratches across multiple panels — bodyshop usually better value
- Rust already forming in the scratch — needs proper preparation, quote after photos
- Large flat panels in some metallic colours — blending limits apply, we'll advise
- Scratches through to plastic or metal over a wide area
Send photos first — if it needs a different repair route, we’ll say so.
Guide prices
Honest guide prices — a ballpark from your photos, the final figure confirmed at inspection.
| Repair | Guide price |
|---|---|
| Light scratch — machine polish | From £60 |
| Minor paint scratch repair | From £130 |
| Localised panel scuff repair | From £150 |
| Key marks / multiple panels | Quote after photos |
Prices are guide prices only. Final quote depends on damage size, location, paint type, colour, access, weather, and whether the repair is mobile-suitable or workshop-suitable. Send photos for an accurate ballpark.
What affects the price
- Depth — lacquer-only, through colour, or to metal
- Length and position of the scratch
- Panel type — bumpers blend differently to flat metal panels
- Paint colour and finish (solid, metallic, pearl)
- Whether rust has started in the scratch
Mobile or workshop?
Polish-out scratches and small localised repairs are usually fine mobile. Longer scratches on flat, highly visible panels — especially in silver and light metallics — are often better in the workshop where we can control light and dust for an invisible blend.
How to send photos for the fastest quote
- One close-up of the damage, about 30–50cm away
- One wider shot showing the whole panel or wheel
- Vehicle make, model and colour (a photo of the whole car helps)
- Your postcode so we can confirm coverage
- Whether you’d prefer mobile or workshop
Daylight photos work best. Don’t worry about making it look good — we’re used to reading real-world photos.

Why photos first?
Photos let us quote quickly and honestly. We can usually tell straight away whether a mark will respond to SMART repair, whether it needs the workshop, or whether a bodyshop is the better route. That saves you time — and means the price we give you is one we can stand behind at inspection.
Common questions
Will my scratch polish out?
If your fingernail doesn't catch in it, there's a good chance it will polish out. If it catches, it usually needs paint. Send a photo — we can generally tell straight away.
Can you fix key marks?
Usually yes, panel by panel. If a key mark runs across three or four panels, a bodyshop respray can be better value — we'll be straight with you about the crossover point.
How invisible is the repair?
On most colours a localised repair blends so the eye can't find it. A small number of colours are harder to blend locally, and we'll flag that before you book rather than after.
How long does scratch repair take?
Polishing jobs around an hour; localised paint repairs typically 2–4 hours depending on size and colour.
What photos should I send?
One close-up (30–50cm away), one wider shot of the panel, plus make, model, colour and postcode.
